Why Travel?

As this is a first blog post it makes sense to start off with the blogger introducing themselves and why they have a passion to get on a plane and land in a place they have never discovered.

So..my name is Monal and I am 24 years old that has a First Class degree under her belt in Economics (trust me I was as much as surprised as you when I achieved that, do not worry I did not pay anyone to get that grade). Simple introduction to me which is not much. The questioning of who I am and what do I want out of my life came about when I graduated from University. After finishing Higher education I was stuck in a limbo. I tried out many things and I got easily bored. I genuinely thought I had something wrong with me but then I realised-I HATE ROUTINE!! This is when travel came about to me.

Travelling has been seen by many as the ‘void-filler’ for those who are fresh out of University and do not have a job to fall back on, which is true to some extent. When I first finished University I went into a full-time job as I wanted to save as much money as I can for my future. From me going ‘I need to get that payslip cashed in for my future’ to ‘what am I doing with my life at this moment in time?’ came about when I went through a break-up. Do not get me wrong I was not crying into a pillow whilst holding a big tub of ice-cream with Taylor Swift playing in the background. It helped me open up more to the aspirations of what I wanted-after suppressing them for many years.

Many have been taught from a young age to follow these stages of life to help us achieve the ‘happy ever after’ everyone dreams of. First comes the University grades, second comes the job, third comes marriage, fourth is children- where you all live in a house with white picket fences. So when you have checked off everything on the tick list you are now able to retire and go to travel. Personally, I am not ready to wait when I am 60 with a walking stick to go explore the world. Reality is, we do not know what awaits us around the corner and that is the scariest part-but use this as a drive to do whatever the hell you want! I do not think I will stop travelling as this for me is an integral part of who I am now. Seeing the world in different angles and experiencing different cultures opens your eyes up to things that matter the most-and that is LIVING!
